Surging Wildcats Stop in Charlottetown to Battle Isles

November 7, 2020 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release

Coming off just their second loss of the season, the Charlottetown Islanders will waste little time in working to rebound.

Playing in yet another back-to-back matchup, the Isles welcome the surprisingly hot Moncton Wildcats to the Eastlink Centre on Saturday night.

Charlottetown (8-2-0-0) were dealt just their second loss of the season last night, a hard-luck 5-4 loss to the Halifax Mooseheads. Elliot Desnoyers recorded four goals, including the game-winning goal with 35 seconds left in regulation, to secure the victory.

Despite that, the Islanders put forth another strong offensive effort, recording four goals and 45 shots on net. Cedric Desruisseaux was once again a catalyst, recording yet another goal and multi-point game. Desruisseaux now has scored at least a goal in a franchise record nine straight games. He sits second overall in the QMJHL with 18 points and first overall with 12 goals.

In goal, Colten Ellis has been an absolute star between the pipes, recording a .919 save percentage and a 2.00 goals against average, both of which placing him amongst the top five netminders in the league. He'll get the nod between the pipes for Charlottetown in search of his seventh victory on the campaign.

The Isles will battle the Wildcats (5-4-0-0) who have been turning heads with their solid play as of late, winners of four straight games. They're coming off a 4-3 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs just last night, propelled by a great performance from Ottawa Senators prospect Philippe Daoust. The Barrie, Ontario product picked up two goals and an assist, and has racked up ten points in nine games to start the year.

In goal, Dakota Lund-Cornish has been a much-needed revelation between the pipes for the Wildcats. The over-age goalie and former Islander is tied with Ellis for fourth in the Q with a .919 save percentage. Look for him to get the nod once again for Moncton.
