Surf Trade for Garry Maddox, Jr.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (July 12, 2002) – The Atlantic City Surf have announced the acquisition of outfielder Garry Maddox, Jr., from the Camden Riversharks in exchange for outfielder Maleke Fowler.

Maddox, the son of the former 1980 World Championship Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Garry Maddox, is a .290 career minor league hitter in 569 games.

He endured his best professional season with El Paso (AA) in 1999, hitting .295 with 15 home runs, 75 RBI, and 22 stolen bases.

Maddox, who spent time in the Arizona Diamondbacks, Houston Astros, and Boston Red Sox organizations, began the year hitting .250 for Pennsylvania and hit .298 with six RBI with Camden this season.

Fowler, a staple in the Surf lineup for the past two seasons, was hitting .221 with eight home runs, 23 RBI, and 10 stolen bases.
