Atlantic City Surf News Release
The Atlantic City Surf Professional Baseball club has announced the signing of former Philadelphia Phillie Pete Incaviglia, a member of the 1993 National League Championship squad and teammate of Surf manager Mitch Williams.
Incaviglia, 37, will take on the duties of player/coach for the Surf and will report as early as Monday, July 8, for Atlantic City's 11:05 a.m. game with the Pennsylvania Road Warriors. Hitting coach Danny Perez will return to his previous duties as Director of Baseball Operations.
The colorful Incaviglia boasts 12 seasons and 1,284 games of major league experience. He spent his first five big-league seasons with the Texas Rangers and made stops with the Detroit Tigers and the Houston Astros before signing with the Phillies in 1993. Incaviglia, as a teammate of Williams and a member of the storied "Macho Row", endured his best professional season with the Phillies and led them to the 1993 World Series with a .274 batting average, 24 home runs, and 89 RBI. This will be his third stop in the Atlantic League after playing nine games with Nashua in 2000 and 50 games with Newark in 2001.
"The Surf are proud to announce the signing of Pete Incaviglia and happy to reunite him with his good friend Mitch Williams," said Surf general manager Mario Perrucci. "We look forward to his performance on the field as well as his expertise in instructing our young players."
