Surf force a game three in South Division Series against the Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ - The Atlantic City Surf defeated the Somerset Patriots 7-3 in Game Two of the South Division Series before 5,749 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening to force a Game Three on Thursday.

The Surf took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Second baseman Demetrius Heath drew a walk and advanced to third base on a single by right fielder Jim Essian. Essian then stole second base to put runners on second and third. Left fielder Ozzie Timmons followed with a two-run double to plate both runners. First baseman Julian Yan's two-run home run to center closed out the inning for the Surf.

Atlantic City added a run in the top of the fourth inning on a solo home run by shortstop Rayner Bautista to give the Surf a 5-0 advantage.

The Patriots broke through for two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 5-2. Third baseman Jeff Nettles walked, advanced on shortstop Kevin Nicholson's fielder's choice, and scored on designated hitter Lou Lucca's single. Nicholson then scored on catcher Fernando Lunar's RBI single.

The Surf put up two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to increase the lead to 7-2. Bautista doubled and scored on a two-run home run to right field by catcher Melvin Rosario.

The Patriots added a run on an RBI ground out with bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Surf reliever Lincoln Mikkelsen (1-0) picked up the win, pitching three scoreless innings and recording two strikeouts. Patriots starter Shane Heams (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on five hits and four strikeouts in three innings pitched.
