Surf Edged in 10 Innings by Sharks

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (June 15, 2003) – Lipso Nava roped an RBI single off Surf relief pitcher Randi Mallard in the tenth inning to lead the Camden Riversharks past Atlantic City, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at the Sandcastle.

The game was mostly a pitcher's duel between Camden's Lincoln Mikkelsen and Atlantic City's Anthony Chavez, with both hurlers going nine innings and allowing two runs.

Chavez allowed two runs on four hits while striking out six and walking none while Mikkelsen (6-1) surrendered just three hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.

After Camden's Stoney Briggs reached on an error by shortstop Raul Marval to lead off the tenth inning, Nava hit a line-drive single off Mallard (0-1) into centerfield for the winning run.

Atlantic City's Ric Johnson gave the Surf a 2-0 lead after his base-hit drove in Pat Burns and Brody Jackson in the third inning.

The Riversharks countered with an RBI single by Briggs in the fifth and a solo homer off the bat of Brad Strauss, who was 3-5 on the day, in the sixth.

The Surf drop to 20-21 while the Riversharks improve to 26-16 on the season.

ON DECK: After a day off on Monday, the Surf begin a six-game road trip in Central Islip, N.Y., to face the Long Island Ducks on Tuesday, June 17, at 6:35 p.m. Atlantic City will play a three-game series in Somerset from June 20-22 then return home on June 23 for a 6:35 p.m., contest with Long Island.
