Berkshire Black Bears News Release
On a rare sunny day this season at Wahconah, Berkshire and North Shore squared off for the rubber game Sunday afternoon in Pittsfield. The two teams traded runs in the 2nd, but the Spirit added three runs in the top of the third while Black Bears got just one in the bottom half of the frame to make the score 5-3. The hometown team would get two in the eighth, making it 7-5 North Shore, but two innings of relief from Chad Bircher put away Berkshire for good. Klae Calvert (2-0) threw seven innings for the win, walking two and striking out eight. Brian O'Connor (0-1) picked up the loss in his first appearance for Berkshire, going just two and third innings in the start. The offensive highlight for the Black Bears was center fielder Shane Hopper who went 4-for-4 at the plate, including two RBI's and two runs scored.
The Black Bears now embark upon a seven game road trip at Bangor and Quebec.
