
Navarro Leads Bears over Road Warriors, 8-1

NEWARK, NJ, June 15-Right-hander Jaime Navarro made his return to Newark a successful one as he led the Newark Bears to an 8-1 victory over the Pennsylvania Road Warriors Sunday afternoon at Riverfront Stadium. With the win, the Bears (21-20) conclude their longest homestand of the season with a 7-4 record.
The 35 year-old Navarro, who pitched for the Bears in 2001, threw eight innings, allowing only an unearned run in the 6th inning, and three hits. Navarro, who has 12 years of experience in the Major Leagues, struck out three batters and did not walk any.
The Bears grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning on Danny Clyburn's two-out, two-run single. They tacked on single runs in each of the next three innings to take a 5-1 lead. Wil Quintana, his 8th, and Michael Coleman, his 2nd, hit solo home runs for the Bears in the 4th and 5th innings respectively.
Newark second baseman Paul Esposito was 3-4 at the plate with a triple, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.
The Bears will return to action Tuesday night when they take on the Bridgeport Bluefish at 6:35 PM in Connecticut. Matt Wagner (4-1) will start for the Bears on Tuesday.
