Atlantic City Surf News Release
Bridgeport, CT- The Bluefish took advantage of a muffed double-play attempt by Atlantic City''s Raul Marval to score three runs off Andy Zwirchitz in the second inning.
Thats all the runs the Bluefish would score, but the should-of-been double play would haunt the Surf the rest of the game.
T.J. Mathews, the ex-big leaguer, was solid today. He breezed through the first seven innings allowing no more then one base runner during any inning until the eighth. Chad Gambill struck out to open that frame, John Denny swung and missed a third strike, But Bridgeport''s catcher dropped the ball as Denny advanced to first. Lauro Felix then singled, Ric Johnson was hit by a pitch, and the Surf found themselves with the bases loaded. Marval had a chance to redeem himself if he could only make solid contact, but Mathews proved to good as he sat down Marval on strikes for out number two. Brandon Jackson came up with them loaded, a situation he has been rather good in, but struck out on three pitches to end the threat. Mathews had four strike outs that inning!
Mike Guilfoyle came in to pitch the final inning and went 1-2-3 for his league leading 18th save and a Bridgeport win.
Andy Z. had a great outing allowing no batter to get a hit in his final 5 1/3 innings, but the Fish made it up stream.
Listen in on 1490 am, your home for Surf baseball, and catch all the action for game two of the series tomorrow night at 7:05pm.
