Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors had a 3-0 lead heading to the bottom of the first, but the Elmira Pioneers would score 12 unanswered runs and win the game 12-3 Thursday night in Elmira.

Allentown got to Elmira starter Bamboo Takeuchi, who was only scheduled to pitch one inning before giving way to Brian Edmondson. Back-to-back singles by Jorge Diaz and Ender Gonzalez, followed by a walk to Vic Davilla loaded the bases with no one out. After Marlon Roche popped out, everyone moved up a base and Diaz scored on a wild pitch to Brian Macchi. Macchi then doubled to left-center, driving in Gonzalez and Davilla.

But the Pioneers would return the favor in the bottom of the inning. Back-to-back singles from Dennis Abreu and Rolando Bello followed by a two run triple from Rafael Alvarez made it 3-2. Ambassador starter Reed Harvey then got Alex Marconi to ground out, although Alvarez scored on the play to tie the game. Ryan Jones then doubled, followed by a Ryan Lehr double, driving in Jones. After getting another out, Harvey walked Jason Baker and was replaced by Wade Clark.

The Pioneers got to Clark in the second for three runs, including a two run home run from Rolando Bello, his second of the season. Elmira would tack on another run in the third and fourth innings to stretch out their lead. Two more in the sixth and another in the seventh finished out the scoring. Brian Jones finished 4-5, while Abreu had three hits. Each Elmira starter had at least one hit, and the team finished with 17.

Edmondson pitched seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk and striking out six to earn his sixth win of the season. He is now 6-4. Harvey took his third loss. He is 0-3. Elmira improves to 5-2, in first place in the South Division and three games ahead of the Ambassadors, who are now 2-5. Elmira took three out of four from the Ambassadors in this series. Allentown next goes to Berkshire for a three game series.
