Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Burgess/Edwards family and the Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce that they, along with participating Sudbury Wolves hockey fans, succeeded in raising a grand total of $10,000 for the NORTHERN ONTARIO FAMILIES OF CHILDREN WITH CANCER (NOFCC) charity. The funds were raised from proceeds of the first-ever Superhero Night which took place on February 12th when the Wolves hosted the Saginaw Spirit.
"Superhero Night was a tremendous success on and off the ice," said Sudbury Wolves Owner and CEO Mark Burgess. "Our fans and players alike were excited and it was fantastic to see all of the fans, young and old, dress-up in their costumes. The NOFCC is an incredible charity that provides support locally to families in need and we were pleased to be able to select them as the beneficiary of this event."
The "SuperWolves" wore special limited edition Superhero themed jerseys which were auctioned off throughout the game to raise money for the NOFCC. Money was also raised through a Superhero themed donation raffle, t-shirt sales, 50/50 proceeds and a direct cash donation from the Burgess/Edwards family. Game night sponsor St. Louis Bar & Grill also contributed financially proceeds raised in store.
"Our organization is so honoured that the Sudbury Wolves chose NOFCC as the beneficiary of this event," said Dayna Caruso, Executive Director, NOFCC. "We are completely blown away by the results of the evening! The funds raised are going to support families in this community and all across Northern Ontario. Quite simply we couldn't do any of the work we do without the support of our community and organizations like the Sudbury Wolves, not being government funded means we are constantly looking for new fundraising endeavors. It was a true pleasure to work with such an enthusiastic and community-minded group of individuals! We thank each and every person who was involved and those who donated for their support," she added.
The Sudbury Wolves wish to thank all of our generous loyal fans and local businesses and sponsors that purchased tickets for the game and helped make this new initiative a huge success.
