Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (Aug. 21, 2012) -- The Hagerstown Suns overcame three Intimidators leads to force extra innings before scoring the winning run on a wild throw from right field in the bottom of the 10th for a 7-6 win over Kannapolis on Tuesday at Municipal Stadium.

With one out in the home half of the 10th, Adrian Nieto walked and moved into scoring position on a Justin Miller single. J.R. Higley followed with a single to right field, and Nieto stopped at third base but Mark Haddow's throw home sailed wide of the plate, bringing Nieto in for the game-winning run.

Stew Brase (4-5) entered the game in the 10th and suffered the loss. Hagerstown's L.J. Hollins (2-0) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.

Kannapolis took its third lead of the game in the eighth inning when Martin Medina's single put the Intimidators ahead, 6-5. Hagerstown threatened in the home half of the eighth when Khayyan Norfolk doubled to put himself in scoring position, but Dustin Umberger retired the next two batters to end the inning.

The Suns fought back in the ninth inning when Justin Miller led off with a double and scored on a Caleb Ramsey triple that got past Mark Haddow in right field, putting the winning run on third with one out. Umberger managed to get out the inning with the game still tied.

The Intimidators blasted a pair of two-out home runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Grant Buckner (6) drove a Greg Holt pitch to center field for a 3-2 lead, and Leighton Pangilinan (7) followed Martin Medina's double by obliterating a ball over the right field wall for a two-run shot.

Hagerstown rallied to make up the three-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning, tying the game, 5-5, on an Umberger wild pitch. Umberger relieved starter Matt Lane who allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts and a walk over 6 and 2/3 innings while taking no decision.

Chris Curley launched the first pitch of the second inning over the center field wall for his team-leading 10th home run of the season and second in as many days, giving the Intimidators a 1-0 lead.

Hagerstown capitalized on an Intimidators inning-extending error in the home half of the second inning, as Caleb Ramsey followed the play with an RBI-single to tie the game, 1-1. Suns second baseman Cutter Dykstra led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a go-ahead home run (7) for a 2-1 lead.

The Intimidators responded in the top of the fifth with two outs when Adam Heisler reached base on a lost-in-the-light double, and Courtney Hawkins followed with a game-tying single to bring home Heisler, 2-2.

The Intimidators wrap up their three-game series with the Suns on Wednesday at Municipal Stadium. The Intimidators return to CMC- NorthEast Stadium on Tuesday, Aug. 28, to face the Greenville Drive.
