
Suns Take Third Straight from Smokies

Jacksonville, Fla. - Lee Mitchell hit a pair of home runs and knocked in three runs, helping Andrew Miller to his first Double-A win in 2010, as the Jacksonville Suns (50-38, 10-8) took a 7-6 win over the Tennessee Smokies (50-37, 8-10) in front of 6,873 Friday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Miller (1-5) allowed four runs and eight hits over five and one-thirds innings in his first winning decision with Jacksonville. The left-hander allowed one hit and faced the minimum over the first four innings. Jeremy Papelbon (1-2) took the loss, giving up four runs, three earned, and six hits over four innings. Jhan Marinez (6) saved the game with a perfect inning and one-thirds performance.
Jacksonville built an early 4-0 lead with two runs in the second and third innings. Chris Hatcher knocked in the second inning runs on a triple to right-centerfield, scoring Lee Mitchell and Javier Guzman. Lee Mitchell belted a two-out, two-run homerun in the third, opening a 4-0 score.
The Tennessee Smokies ran their scoreless innings streak to 39 after being turned away in the first four innings, but finally got on the board in the fifth inning against Miller. Russ Canzler led off with a single and later scored on a two-out soft line drive to right-centerfield from Nate Samson for a 4-1 score.
Lee Mitchell answered the Tennessee run with another homerun in the bottom of the fifth, a solo shot to open a 5-1 lead.
Tennessee scored three runs in the sixth inning to send Miller out of the game. Josh Vitters connected for a two-run home run, cutting the Suns lead to 5-3. Russ Canzler next tripled and scored on a Robinson Chirinos double for a 5-4 score.
Jacksonville countered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Vinny Rottino knocked in a run with a double and scored on a wild pitch for a 7-4 lead.
The Smokies scored two in the eighth inning on a Chirinos two-run home run to right field, cutting the Suns lead to 7-6.
Suns RH Jeff Allison will face Smokies RH Chris Carpenter in game four of the series Saturday at 7:05 p.m. The first 3,000 fans will receive bobbleheads of legendary UNF baseball coach Dusty Rhodes. Following the game, wrestling continues with a ladies match, tag-team match and the Midget Wrestling Championships.
