Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, FL - The Jacksonville Suns (16-10, 52-44) continued their excellent play against their in-state rivals on the 2014 season, completing a sweep of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (9-18, 40-57) 2-0 and 4-2 in Thursday's series-opening doubleheader from Bragan Field.

The Suns rode seven brilliant innings from Jay Rogers and a timely two-out knock from Terrence Dayleg to a 2-0 shutout victory in game one of the doubleheader.

Jay Rogers (W, 5-2) was absolutely magnificent as he went the distance en route to his fifth win of the year, holding the Wahoos without a run on a lone infield single in a seven inning complete game shutout, finishing with one walk and nine strikeouts. His nine strikeouts tied a career high which he previously set on August 6, 2010 against the Gulf Coast League Astros in six shutout innings as a member of the Gulf Coast League Marlins.

Daniel Corcino (L, 8-8) took the loss for Pensacola by surrendering two runs (both earned) on four hits, while walking a batter and striking out five Suns in five innings of work.

The only offense of the day came when Terrence Dayleg broke the scoreless deadlock in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-out, two-run double to put Jacksonville up 2-0 after four innings of play.

The Suns completed the sweep of the doubleheader by doubling up the Blue Wahoos 4-2 in game two on Thursday night.

James Nygren started the game off for Jacksonville and did not factor into the decision after allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits in three innings of work, striking out a batter while not walking a single Blue Wahoo.

Steve Ames (W, 1-1) earned the win after tossing a scoreless top of the fourth in his return to the Suns after missing more than three months of the season with a right shoulder strain. He'd give up a walk and a hit while striking out a batter in his winning inning of work.

Collin Cargill tossed 1.2 hitless innings of relief, surrendering just a lone walk in his scoreless outing.

Nick Wittgren (SV, 14) collected his team-leading 14th save of the year after recording the final four outs, giving up just one hit while striking out a batter in his 1.1 innings of work.

Jon Moscot (L, 5-9) took the loss in game two, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits in five innings of work, ending with one walk and three strikeouts.

Jacksonville opened up the scoring with a run in the first to take an early lead in game two. Austin Nola came down to score on Joe Benson's sacrifice fly to give the Suns a 1-0 lead after the first inning of play.

Pensacola answered back with a run of their own in the top of the second inning, leveling the score at 1-1 on Lou Marson's RBI single through the left side of the infield.

The Wahoos used a defensive miscuie to take the lead in the top of the third inning, with Yorman Rodriguez coming around to score from second base on a fielding error by second baseman Alfredo Lopez.

Unfazed, the Suns got the lead right back by scoring twice in the bottom of the third inning. Terrence Dayleg tied the game at 2-2 with an opposite field RBI double into right and Austin Barnes followed him with a go-ahead RBI single to put the Suns in front 3-2 after three innings.

Jacksonville added to its lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, as thanks to an error by Juan Duran on a single off the bat of Joe Benson, Terrence Dayleg came around to score to put the Suns in front 4-2 after five innings of play.

Prior to the start of the second inning, Blue Wahoos manager Delino DeShields was ejected by first base umpire David Marcoe.

The Suns and Blue Wahoos will be back at it on Friday night, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. ET. Jacksonville is set to throw out right-hander Robert Morey (1-0, 2.79), while the Blue Wahoos will counter with a righty of their own in Robert Stephenson (4-6, 3.97). With a win, the Suns would clinch the Golden Skillet for the third consecutive year.

Suns fans can listen to Friday's game on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or through www.jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 6:50 p.m. ET with the Memorial Hospital Suns Pregame Show.

The 2014 season of Suns baseball is presented by EverBank, the official banking partner of the Jacksonville Suns. Sponsorships, group outings, and season / individual game tickets are currently available by calling the Suns front office at (904) 358-2846.
