Jacksonville, Fla. - An Andy LaRoche four-for-four outing and no hits through five and a third from pitcher Spike Lundberg led the Jacksonville Suns to a 7-0 victory and a sweep of the Huntsville Stars on Sunday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds.
With the win the Suns have won 12 consecutive games and equaled their best winning streak since 1988 (when Suns day-by-day records begin). Jacksonville has also won 20 of the last 21 games. The win over Huntsville improves Jacksonville to 10-0 against the Stars this season and secures the Suns third five-game series sweep of the season.
Starting pitcher Spike Lundberg continued his strong work on the hill by allowing only three walks in the first five innings of work. With one out in the sixth, Steve Moss bunted toward third base to break up the no-hit bid. After allowing only two more hits after that point, Lundberg left the game after seven innings of work.
The best batting team in the League supported their pitcher beginning with a fourth inning RBI double from Andy LaRoche to make it 1-0. Jacksonville added another run on a LaRoche RBI single in the sixth inning to increase the lead to 2-0.
The Suns then ran away with it in the seventh inning by scoring five runs including one on an error by the third baseman and RBI singles from A.J. Zapp and Adam Greenberg. Andy LaRoche then belted his ninth homerun of the season, a two-run shot to left-centerfield to finish the scoring at 7-0.
LaRoche finished the game 4-4 with a homerun and four RBI.
Lundberg improved to 7-1 in the win while Jeff Housman fell to 1-3 in the loss for Huntsville.
After spending Monday off in Jackson, Miss., the Suns begin a series against the Mississippi Braves on Tuesday night at 8:05 ET at Trustmark Park. Fans can follow the action on AM 930 The Fox or online at jaxsuns.com or milb.com.
