
Suns Slam BlueClaws

Lakewood, N.J. â The Lakewood BlueClaws (1-4) began their first road trip of the year by taking on the first place Hagerstown Suns (5-0), the New York Mets affiliate. Mike Carp's grand slam for the Suns was too much for the BlueClaws to overcome as they dropped game one of their three game series 6-1.
After the BlueClaws went down in order in the top of the first the Suns scored in the bottom of half on Ambiorix Conception RBI triple to make it 1-0.
The BlueClaws tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third. Greg Golson connected for a one out single then Sean Gamble followed up with a walk. Both runners advanced on Suns pitcher Matt Durkins throwing error. Golson would then score on Brad Harman's ground ball out to short.
Lakewood's starter Maximo De Le Cruz would run into trouble in the bottom half of the third inning. After two walks and a throwing error by third baseman Sam Orr, Carp connected for a grand slam to right to put the Suns up 5-1.
De Le Cruz (0-1) allowed six runs on five hits over the course of six innings while striking out nine and walking just two. The BlueClaws Jason Drobiak went 2-for-4 in the game and Greg Golson was 1-for-4. The Suns pitching staff combined to strike out 13 BlueClaws batters.
The BlueClaws are back in action tonight for game number two against the Hagerstown Sun. Right-hander Andy Baldwin (0-1, 6.75) will go to the mound for the BlueClaws. He will be opposed by the Suns right-hander Gabriel Hernandez (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. with on air time at 6:20 P.M.
This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the other great promotions this year, fireworks after every Friday night home game sponsored by Toyota World / Scion World of Lakewood. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against affiliates of the New York Yankees and Mets.
