(HAGERSTOWN, Md.) Ivan Pineyro allowed three hits in seven innings as the Hagerstown Suns shut out the Lexington Legends 7-0 Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series. Pineyro struck out six batters and walked two.

Hagerstown scored a run in the bottom of the first inning on doubles by Tony Renda and Wander Ramos.

The Suns added a run in the third. Stephen Perez led off with a walk. As he broke for second on a steal attempt, pitcher Daniel Stumpf threw to first, but first baseman Fred Ford's throw to second went into left field for an error, allowing Perez to advance to third. He scored on a single to right field by Shawn Pleffner.

The Suns increased their lead to 3-0 in the fourth on a double by Brandon Miller, a throwing error by shortstop Humberto Arteaga, and a sacrifice fly by Estarlin Martinez. In the fifth, a bunt single by Khayyan Norfork, a walk, a double steal and a ground out by Miller gave Hagerstown a 4-0 lead.

A three-run eighth inning wrapped up the scoring. Wes Schill singled and stole second base. After Martinez walked, Will Piwnica-Worms singled to right field, scoring Schill. With two outs, Perez singled, loading the bases, and Renda followed with a two-run single.

Pineyro (4-2) got the win. Daniel Stumpf (3-2) was the starting and losing pitcher for Lexington.

The two teams play again Friday. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
