Hagerstown Suns News Release

The Hagerstown Suns (12-21, 48-55) fought hard against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (17-16, 49-54), but fell 7-3 in the series opener on the road.

Greensboro got the offense going quickly against Graham Hicks (1-4), scoring two runs in each of the first two innings off of four different RBI plate appearances.

The Suns put together a rally in the third with three runs off Grasshoppers starter Chad James. After three walks with four batters loaded the bases, Justin Bloxom hit a double down the left field line to score Sandy Leon and Eury Perez, followed by an RBI ground out by Destin Hood to score Rick Hague to cut the deficit to one.

The Suns continued to get runners in scoring position, including at least one in the first seven innings, however the Grasshoppers bullpen held the Suns to no runs past the third.

Greensboro scored a run each in the third, sixth and seventh to secure the 7-3 victory.

Hicks threw five innings in his start, allowing five runs, only four earned, with two strikeouts. Garcia threw two innings of relief, allowing two runs. Wanel Vasquez pitched a scoreless eighth in relief.

James threw four and a third, allowing three runs to the Suns. Sandy Rosario (5-2) earned the win, coming in relief of Chad James in the fifth, throwing 1.2 innings.

The Suns will return to NewBridge Bank Park on Friday for the second of the four-game set against the Greensboro Grasshoppers at 7:00 p.m.
