Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

The Augusta GreenJackets dropped the Savannah Sand Gnats by a score of 4-1 Thursday night at Historic Grayson Stadium in a game in which Cesar Puello accounted for almost all of Savannah's offense.

The right fielder was 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch and scored the Gnats' only run.

He has now hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games for the Gnats.

The GreenJackets scored an unearned run against Savannah starter John Church in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.

Augusta extended its lead to 4-0 with a three-run top of the fourth.

The big blow was a two-run triple to right center field from DH Tommy Joseph.

Church (5-1, 1.78) gave up four runs on six hits in four innings to suffer his first defeat of 2010.

On the other side, Augusta starter Andy Reichard was dealing.

He was perfect his first time through the order and retired the first 11 Gnats he saw until Puello's single into left in the fourth.

Reichard struck out seven batters in his 6.2 innings of work, picking up his second win in the process.

The Gnats scored their only run in the bottom of the eighth.

Puello was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on 1B Travis Ozga's single through the left side.

Immediately before game time, 2B Alonzo Harris was placed on the Savannah disabled list retroactive to Tuesday, with a strained groin, and reliever Luis Rojas was activated from the Brooklyn roster.

The Gnats send RHP Collin McHugh (3-6, 3.28) to the mound on Friday at 7:05 against RHP Jeremy Toole (3-4, 4.25) for the GreenJackets.

Gates open at 6 pm, and the pregame show on the radio on News/Talk 630 and sandgnats.com will begin at 6:50.
