Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Jacksonville, FLâ James Loney's two-out single brought the Suns a 4-3 victory in 11 innings over the Carolina Mudcats in front of 7,349 fans Tuesday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Loney's single to center field scored Derek Michaelis and gave the Suns (38-38 overall, 3-4 second half) their 10th final at bat victory of the season. Randy Messenger (6-1) earned the loss. Franquelis Osoria (4-3) pitched a perfect 11th and earned the victory.
Willy Aybar, named to the Eastern Division All-Star team before the game, went 3-for-4 and hit his team-leading 10th home run in the first inning, giving the Suns a 1-0 lead. That lasted until the fifth when Carolina (39-38, 2-5) scored off Suns starter Dimas Reina. Josh Willingham's RBI double in the sixth knocked Reina from the game after he delivered 5-2/3 innings, allowing two runs and five hits.
No Suns starting pitcher has completed six innings since June 11.
Brennan King's two-out single in the bottom of the fifth gave the Suns a 2-1 lead. After the team fell behind 3-2 in the eighth, Nelson Castro scored on a balk by Mudcats reliever Mike Flannery which tied the game.
The Suns travel to Greenville, S.C., to face the Braves in a four-game series at Municipal Stadium. Left-hander Glenn Bott (3-4, 3.99 ERA) is scheduled to face righty Kyle Davies, who would make his double-A debut. Game time is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
