Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (15-18) and West Virginia Power (19-14) both won 3-0 games against eachother on Thursday evening, as the teams split a doubleheader at Municipal Stadium. West Virginia came out on top in the first game, while Hagerstown was victorious in the nightcap.
In the 3-0 Suns win, LHP Connor Bach (1-0) and RHP Justin Amlung combined to keep the Power off the scoreboard. Bach picked up his first win of the season by going a season-long 5.1 innings, and allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out six. Amlung didn't allow a hit over the final 1.2 innings to earn his first save of the season. RHP Jose Regalado (0-2) started for West Virginia and suffered the loss. He surrendered all three Hagerstown runs on seven hits over five innings.
The first two Hagerstown runs crossed the plate in the first inning, snapping a 17-inning scoreless streak. Right fielder Alec Keller led off the frame with a ground ball single to left. Catcher Matt Reistetter followed by smacking a triple off the center field wall, putting the Suns up 1-0. Reistetter then came home on a groundout to short by CF Dale Carey, making it 2-0 Hagerstown. The final run for the Suns came home in the third thanks to back-to-back doubles to begin the inning by Keller and Reistetter.
In the Power's 3-0 win in the first game of the doubleheader it was RHP Yeudy Garcia (1-2) who combined with RHP Montana DuRapau to blank the Suns. Garcia got the win in his first start of the season by tossing five innings and giving up just two hits while striking out three. DuRapau allowed two hits in two innings while striking out two to record his first save of the year. Starting RHP Jefry Rodriguez (0-3) suffered the loss for Hagerstown. He lasted just 4.2 innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two.
Two of the three Power runs came across the plate in the third inning. Designated hitter Chase Simpson was hit by a pitch to begin the frame, and he advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Left fielder Jeff Roy brought Simpson home from second with a fly ball single to left, making it 1-0. Roy also wound up scoring on an RBI single, as the Power sent seven men to the plate in the inning. The next inning West Virginia produced its third run of the game thanks to an RBI ground-rule double off the bat of 2B Pablo Reyes.
These teams will continue their five-game series at Municipal Stadium on Friday May 15. The Suns will send RHP Austen Williams (4-1) to the mound for his seventh start of the season. He will square off against RHP Alex McRae (2-2) for West Virginia. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
