Greenville Drive News Release

Charleston, SC - The Upstate got the upper hand against the Lowcountry on Thursday night in Charleston, as the Greenville Drive (18-15) used quality pitching and a three-run homer by Deiner Lopez to defeat the Charleston RiverDogs (19-14) 4-2.

The Drive rallied back from a 2-1 deficit in the top of the seventh. Michael Chavis began the inning with a single to right field, and after a fielder's choice, Joseph Monge lined a single to left to set the stage for Lopez, who drove a Sean Carley (0-1) over the wall to put the Drive up 4-2.

Lopez's big knock made a winner out of Greenville starter Dedgar Jimenez (2-1), who gave the Drive a quality start, allowing just one earned run over six innings. The bullpen did their job to close things out, as Jamie Callahan hurled two scoreless frames and Kuehl McEachern pitched the ninth to notch his fourth save.

Thanks to an RBI single by Ben Moore, the Drive took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Charleston starter Justin Kamplain settled in from there and kept them off the board in his final five innings of work.

Charleston tied the game up in the second after a Drive error prolonged the inning, which allowed Ryan Lindemuth to deliver an RBI single with two outs. They took the lead in the sixth when another Drive error allowed Jorge Mateo to score after he walked and stole second and third.

Chavis had three hits for the Drive, and Mauricio Dubon chipped in with two hits of his own. Lindemuth and Gosuke Katoh collected two hits apiece for Charleston.

The series continues on Friday night at 7:05 PM in Charleston. LH Jalen Beeks (2-1, 4.26) will start for the Drive, while the RiverDogs will send RH David Palladino (1-1, 3.32) to the mound.
