Mississippi Braves News Release
Jacksonville, FL - Jorge Reyes pitched five shutout innings in his first start since 2013 with the triple-A Tucson Padres, and the Mississippi Braves soared to a 6-0 win over the Jacksonville Suns at Bragan Field Saturday night to take the series.
Reyes (5-2) earned the win, striking out four over his five innings, and Mark Lamm and Andrew Robinson each pitched a scoreless pair of innings to close out the clean sheet.
The Braves (24-18) jumped on Jacksonville (15-27) starter Austin Brice right away. Mallex Smith and Chris O'Dowd walked to start the first- with Smith caught stealing second- and David Rohm doubled for men at second and third.
KD Kang came through with a two-run single for a 2-0 lead. Kevin Ahrens followed up with an RBI double to grow the lead to 3-0.
Mississippi tacked on two more in the third after Kang and Loman singled for two men on. Emerson Landoni hit a sacrifice fly to right to make it 4-0, and a wild pitch brought Loman home for a 5-0 lead.
Brice (1-4) allowed five runs on eight hits over his four innings, walking three and taking the loss.
Mississippi added another run in the seventh off reliever Brian Ellington. Kang walked with one out and Ahrens tagged his second RBI double of the game, stretching the lead to 6-0.
It was the Braves' fourth straight win and their sixth in eight games. The Suns' dropped their seventh straight and their 11th in 12 games.
The win put the M-Braves at 6-2 on the current 10-game road trip.
Mississippi and Jacksonville square off in a rare Sunday night game- first pitch slated for 6:05 PM CT--before wrapping up the trip on Monday at 12:05 PM CT. Right-hander Greg Ross (2-3, 5.40) goes to the mound for Mississippi against Jacksonville right-hander Trevor Williams (0-6, 6.25).
