Birmingham Barons News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the second consecutive night, Biloxi came out on top of Birmingham, 4-1, at Joe W. Davis Stadium in Huntsville, Ala.
The Shuckers scored the only run they would need in the third inning when Nick Shaw brought home Brandon Macias on an RBI groundout.
Biloxi would tack on three more runs in the fifth inning. Shaw added his second RBI when he drove home Macias on a base hit to center field, before Kyle Wren knocked in a run on an infield single. Tyrone Taylor then laid down a sacrifice bunt, and a throwing error by Barons starter Mark Blackmar allowed Shaw to score the fourth run for the Shuckers.
The Barons put up their lone run in the top of the ninth when Danny Hayes walked, advanced to second on defensive indifference, and scored on a base hit from Joey DeMichele.
Jacob May and Tim Anderson each recorded two hits for the Barons.
Blackmar (0-3) allowed four earned runs on six hits in seven innings, while striking out three and walking two.
The series continues Saturday with a 7:10 p.m. first pitch. Tyler Barnette (1-2, 1.83 ERA) starts for Birmingham while righty Tyler Wagner (5-0, 1.91 ERA) gets the start for the Shuckers. The game can be heard live on WERC 105.5 FM and WERFM.com.
The Barons return to Birmingham May 27 for the annual Rickwood Classic at Rickwood Field. They host the Jacksonville Suns for five, with the final four contests played at Regions Field.
