Knoxville Smokies News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Chicago Cubs announced a series of transactions that impacts their Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies roster prior to this tonight's contest against the Montgomery Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama.

Right-handed starting pitcher Corey Black has been activated from the Disabled List, and is expected to start tonight's game. Prior to being placed on the DL, the 23-year-old compiled a 1-2 record and 3.68 ERA (15 ER in 36.2 IP), adding 41 strikeouts in six starts. Black in his last outing on May 12 suffered the loss in the second game of a day/night doubleheader despite a quality start in which he yielded two earned runs on four hits in six innings, fanning six.

In addition, infielder Stephen Bruno has also been activated from the Disabled List. The 24-year-old has played in 29 contests with the Smokies this season, accumulating a .264 average (24-91) with ten runs scored, one home run and 11 RBI, along with eight multi-hit performances.

In a corresponding move, outfielder Bijan Rademacher has been placed on the Disabled List retroactive to May 21. The California native has compiled a .227 batting average (27-119) in 35 games for Tennessee this season, in addition to 14 runs, four doubles, one triple, two homers, 19 RBI, 18 walks and a .328 on-base percentage. The 18 free passes currently rank Rademacher in a tie for third on the club behind only infielder Dan Vogelbach and catcher Kyle Schwarber, who each have drawn a Southern League leading 31 bases on balls.

In another corresponding move, right-handed reliever Michael Wagner has been transferred to Single-A Eugene. The Nevada native has made one appearance with the Smokies since joining the club from Triple-A Iowa, allowing an earned run on one hit with one walk and one strikeout on May 20 versus Jackson.

Tennessee's roster now stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.

The Smokies are scheduled to square off this evening at 7:35 p.m. ET in the third game of their five-game against the Montgomery Biscuits, the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. Black (1-2, 3.68) is expected to get the nod for Tennessee, while the Biscuits are slated to send LHP Blake Snell (3-0, 0.00) to the hill.

Following their five-game road set, Tennessee will return to Smokies Stadium to begin a five-game series, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. First game of the series is slated for Wednesday, May 28, with a 7:05 p.m. start time scheduled in Kodak.

Tickets for that game, as well as all remaining home contests at Smokies Stadium, are still available, and can be purchased online at smokiesbaseball.com, or by calling the Smokies Ticket Office at 865-286-2300.
