Arizona Sundogs News Release


The Southwest Division's second-place Arizona Sundogs look to close a season-long eight-game homestand with three-straight against the Amarillo Gorillas beginning Wednesday at Tim's Toyota Center. The Sundogs (19-22-3) look to increase their lead over the Corpus Christi IceRays for the Southern Conference's fifth and final playoff spot. Arizona currently sits one point ahead of Corpus Christi for fifth place and three back of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and fourth place. Amarillo is 12-27-1 and sits in fourth place in the Southwest Division coming into this week's three contests.

Sundogs Storylines:

- Joel Irving ranks second in the CHL with 27 goals and leads the Sundogs with 53 points (27g/26a). He also ranks tenth in the CHL in points. Irving had a five-game point streak snapped in a 5-4 win over the Rocky Mountain Rage on Saturday, Jan. 31.

- Adam Perry was assigned to the Sundogs by the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL and joined the team on Nov. 19 in Odessa. The 21-year-old rookie out of Peterborough, Ontario has posted 45 points (18g/27a) in 31 games and ranks second in the CHL in rookie scoring, despite having played seven less contests than leader Darryl Smith (48 points).

- Rookie forward Peter Cartwright has tallied four points (2g/2a) in his last five games, including two goals in the Sundogs 5-4 win over the Rocky Mountain Rage on Saturday, Jan. 31, earning him second-star honors that night. Cartwright now has 21 points (10g/11a) and is a plus-1 in 43 games with Arizona this season.

- Kyle Hood has six points (2g/4a) in his last six games with three points coming in his last two games since making the switch from defense to forward. The Osoyoos, British Columbia native was voted the game's first star with two points (1g/1a) including the game-winning tally in the Sundogs 5-4 win over the Rocky Mountain Rage on Saturday, Jan. 31. Hood has 13 points (4g/9a) in 44 games with Arizona this season.

- The Sundogs traded forward Martin Gascon to the Tulsa Oilers in exchange for defenseman Jason Lawmaster. In his first three games with the Sundogs, Lawmaster has collected one goal and one assist and is a plus-2 rating.

- Newly acquired forward Matt Craig has two goals and one assist in his first five game with Arizona this season. Craig opened the 2008-09 season with the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies.
