Arizona Sundogs News Release
The Arizona Sundogs (2-2-0) split a pair of contests with the Fort Wayne Komets at Tim's Toyota Center this past weekend. Arizona is in sole possession of fifth place in the Berry Conference and sits in a tie for ninth place overall in the league.
On Friday, Arizona won its home opener for the first time since its 2007-08 championship season, topping the Komets in overtime by a 2-1 score. Mark Kolanos collected both goals for the team's first multiple-goal game by a player this season. Each goal came on the power play.
The Sundogs dropped the second of a two-game set against Fort Wayne on Saturday, falling by the same 2-1 score. Tyler Butler tallied the team's lone goal on a second-period power play.

Sundogs Storylines:
- Mark Kolanos netted a pair of power-play goals in Friday's 2-1 overtime win over the Fort Wayne Komets, including the game-winner 1:44 into the extra frame. Kolanos ranks second on the team in scoring with four points (3g/1a) in four games and has recorded both of the team's game-winning goals, tied for the league lead.
- Rookie forward Jason Williams leads the Sundogs and is tied for the scoring lead among CHL first-year players with five points (2g/3a) in four games. His three assists are tops among first-year players. Williams' plus-4 rating in Friday's 5-3 win ranks tied for the highest plus/minus rating in a single game this season.
- Arizona's penalty kill ranks ninth out of 18 teams at 83.9%, allowing five goals on 31 opponent power play chances. The Sundogs power play ranks 11th in the CHL, having converted four times on 26 man-advantage opportunities.
- Arizona has yet to allow a goal against in the third period in four games this season, the only team in the CHL to do so. Five of the Sundogs' 11 goals this season have come in the third period.
- The Sundogs have allowed a league-low 28 shots against in the third period this season.
- Arizona is tied with Bossier-Shreveport for the most minor penalties in the league with 38.
- Goaltender Doug Groenestege (1-1-0) ranks second in the league in goals against average (1.49) and save percentage (.950). He has allowed three goals in 121:08 minutes of play.
- Forward Adam Smyth leads the CHL in penalty minutes with 29. Defenseman Tyler Butler ranks third in the league with 22 penalty minutes.
- Joey Sides and Smyth are tied for league lead with seven minor penalties through four games.
- Arizona is 2-0-0 in Friday night contests and 0-2-0 on Saturday night this season.
- The Sundogs have split its first two series this season, winning and losing games by identical scores. Arizona won its season opener against the Colorado Eagles by a 5-3 mark and dropped the following game to the Eagles by the same score. Last weekend, the Sundogs topped the visiting Fort Wayne Komets by a 2-1 score and fell Saturday by the same result.
