Sundogs Drop Game to Thunder in Shootout, 4-3

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs dropped the game to the Wichita Thunder in a shootout, in front of 3,358 fans at Tim's Toyota Center Saturday night.
The first period held tied heading into the first intermission. Chad Nehring scored early into the opening frame with assists from Jason Morgan and Matt McCready. Nehring tallied the goal while on the power play after Les Reaney was issued two minutes for a hooking minor. Neil Trimm was able to chip the puck past Arizona's goalie Adam Russo, giving Wichita their first goal of the night when Trimm was given a penalty shot after Kevin Baker was called for tripping.
Nathan Lutz scored Wichita's second goal, 18:09 into the second period with assists from RG Flath and Matt Summers.
The Thunder extended their lead while on the power play in the third frame, with a goal from Matt Robinson. Arizona rallied back collecting two goals to knot the game forcing it into overtime. Sebastian Geoffrion scored 15:34 into the third period off the face-off and 1:31 later Kevin Baker lit the lamp earning the Sundogs their second power play goal of the evening. Cody Purves was credited with the assists on both goals.
Neither team were able to break the tie in overtime despite the Sundogs receiving a 4-on-2 power play after RG Flath was issued a game misconduct for physical abuse of an official and Matt Summers for high sticking. Chad Painchaud was credited with the game-winning goal for Wichita registering the only goal in the shootout.
Russo took the loss for the Sundogs making 37 saves. Wichita outshot Arizona 41-31. The Sundogs were 2-8 on the power play and the Thunder were 1-4 on the power play. Arizona will host their final three regular season games against the Ft. Worth Brahmas next week Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at Tim's Toyota Center.
