UNCASVILLE, Conn. (July 22, 2011) - The Connecticut Sun announced Friday that it has waived DeMya Walker.

The Sun are expected to sign a replacement before the team reconvenes Monday.

"Both sides agreed that parting ways gives DeMya the best opportunity to find a team that better suits her playing style," Sun Vice President and General Manager Chris Sienko said. "We wish DeMya the best wherever she may end up and appreciate her contributions as an athlete, teammate and representative of the Connecticut Sun."

Walker was acquired by the Sun with the third pick in the 2009 WNBA dispersal draft from the Sacramento Monarchs. The 6-foot-3 forward appeared in 31 games with two starts in 2010, averaging 4.1 points per game. She played in 10 of 14 games for the Sun this season, averaging 2.4 points per game.

"It was a mutual parting of the ways," Sun coach Mike Thibault said. "She wanted to go someplace where she had an opportunity to play more. We obviously were going in a different direction with our roster. Jessica Moore was going to be in the rotation. This gives us a chance to bring in a young post to develop for the future."
