NEW YORK - Minnesota Lynx forward Rebekkah Brunson has been selected to start in place of Los Angeles Sparks center Candace Parker, who will not participate due to injury, during the WNBA All-Star Game presented by adidas. Seattle Storm head coach Brian Agler, who will lead the Western Conference, made the announcement today.

Parker suffered a knee injury at New York on June 26 and is expected to be out of action until August. Brunson will join teammate Maya Moore, who was voted by fans as a starter, in the Western Conference starting lineup. Also selected as reserves are Minnesota guards Seimone Augustus and Lindsay Whalen, giving the Lynx the most players selected from one team for a WNBA All-Star Game since 2006 when all five players in the Connecticut Sun starting lineup were selected.

In her seventh year in the WNBA, Brunson is enjoying a breakout season, and is leading the league in rebounds (10.8 rpg) and field goal percentage (.585 on 79-for-135 shooting), and is tied for second in double-doubles (eight). She has also been named Western Conference Player of the Week twice this season, the first two such honors in her career.

The 2011 WNBA All-Star Game presented by adidas will be nationally broadcast on ABC, Saturday, July 23 at 3:30 p.m. ET (2:30 p.m. CT) from San Antonio. It is the first time the San Antonio Silver Stars are hosting the WNBA's midseason showcase. Individual tickets are available to the general public at all San Antonio Ticketmaster locations, including by phone at (210) 225-TEAM, or online at ticketmaster.com or sasilverstars.com.
