Omaha Lancers News Release

Ralston, NE - The Omaha Lancers will lose two constant members of their lineup over the course of the next two weeks. Forwards Filip Suchy and Erlends Klavins will represent their countries at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championships in Montreal and Toronto.

Suchy, playing for team Czech Republic, will leave the Lancers after the teams December 10th game against the Sioux Falls Stampede. This is the fifth consecutive year that Suchy has been selected to take part in international competition ranging from the U16 to U20 levels. Most recently the forward represented the Czech Republic at the 2016 U19 World Championships. Since joining the Lancers in late October, Suchy has recorded eight points (5g, 3a) in 13 games.

Suchy and the Czech Republic open the tournament on December 26 against Team Finland in Montreal.

Erlends Klavins will represent Team Latvia. Klavins has also represented his country on multiple occasions at the U16 and U18 levels. Most recently Klavins played for Team Latvia last summer during the 2016 U18 World Championships in Grand Forks. During the tournament Klavins finished second on the team in scoring with six points (4g, 2a). This season Klavins has ten points (3g, 7a) in 19 games for the Lancers.

Klavins will leave the Lancers after the December 17 game against Lincoln. Team Latvia opens play on December 26 against Team USA.

Both Klavins and Suchy will miss at least the Lancers first three games following the USHL's winter break.

"We're extremely proud of both Filip and Erlends. We will definitely miss having both of them in our lineup. Any time you get a chance to represent your country it's special," said Lancers head coach Brian Kaufman. "This is a great opportunity for Filip and Erlends to compete against the best U20 players in the world. I know that they will represent themselves, their countries, and the Lancers very well."

Latvia and Czech Republic are in opposite pools and would not meet until after the preliminary round.

The 2017 IIHF World Junior Championships runs December 26 thru January 5. Preliminary round games as well as the semifinals will be played at Montreal's Bell Centre, and Toronto's Air Canada Centre. All four of Latvia's games will be broadcast on the NHL Network. Two of the Czech Republic's four preliminary round games will be broadcast on the NHL Network as well.
