Orange County Flyers News Release

FULLERTON, Calif, (August 14, 2010) -- KROQ's Ted Stryker is getting his chance to make a name for himself outside the radio studio. A mainstay in the LA radio market, Stryker will make his professional baseball debut this afternoon with the Orange County Flyers at Goodwin Field at Cal State Fullerton in the second game of today's doubleheader against the Tijuana Cimarrones. First pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 5:05pm, and the second game will start around 7:45pm, approximately 30 minutes after the first game. Included in the pre game ceremonies is a Jeremy Popoff from the band LIT who had a few hit songs, including their #1 hit song "My Own Worst Enemy", he's a close personal friend of Stryker who will be there to root him on!

Stryker also has some special concert tickets and KROQ t-shirts/CD's that will be given throughout the doubleheader compliments of KROQ!

Stryker, has served as the on-stage DJ for The Ellen DeGeneres Show from 2007-2008, and has also acted in several films including Grandmas Boy, Out Cold, and The Sweetest Thing. Stryker co-hosted the nationally syndicated radio show Loveline with Dr. Drew Pinsky from 2006-2009.

The widely-known radio personality almost didn't become a DJ. As a kid, he excelled in baseball and had serious dreams of going pro.

"I was pretty good", said Stryker. "I had the skill, that's for sure. I even played a game in Dodger Stadium for the Los Angeles City Finals for Palisades High." But playing ball professionally wasn't in the cards for him. Now Stryker will get his chance, putting on a professional uniform and taking the field as a member of the Orange County Flyers, who are currently in a tight battle for a South Division playoff spot in the independent Golden Baseball League. "This really is one of the coolest things I have ever been able to do, I am so excited and get wait to get out on that field."

Stryker won a Flyers roster spot at a 2006 celebrity tryout, and his efforts from that afternoon are now being rewarded. He will wear No. 7 for Orange County.

The Orange County Flyers will send newly acquired pitcher Mark Prior to the mound during Game 1 of the doubleheader on Saturday at "The Station" against the Tijuana Cimarrones. Prior, who won the Golden Spikes Award in his final year at USC in 2001 was a National League All-Star team in 2003, joined the Flyers last week and has tossed three scoreless relief innings so far this season. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 5:05pm, and tickets for Saturday are valid for admission to both games.

The Flyers are coming off a five-game sweep of the Tijuana Cimarrones in Yuma, taking two games against them on Friday thanks to complete games tossed by starting pitchers Jesse Smith and Zac Cline. The Flyers are in the middle of playing seven games in four days against the Cimarrones. Orange County is now 17-5 in the second half of the GBL season, having taken over first place in the South Division.
