Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Tucson Toros trampled on the Edmonton Capitals for four runs in the second inning on Friday and never looked back, taking the first game of their four-game series 7-4.

Toros lead-off hitter and centre fielder Josh Womack belted a two-run home run in their four-run second inning and went 3-for-4 on the night to lead Tucson to the win. Caps first baseman Cliff Brumbaugh's 3-for-4 effort and league-leading 77th and 78th RBIs of the season in the three-run sixth weren't enough to close the deficit for the home side.

Tucson got a solid night of pitching from two of their hurlers, as John Bannister got the start and scattered eight hits and four runs over eight innings. Emiliano Fruto came in and shut the door in the ninth to get the save. Caps starter Chris Little went six innings and gave up five runs on eight hits with five strikeouts for the loss.

The Caps are 10-14 in the second half of the Golden Baseball League season, and they're now trailing the Calgary Vipers (18-7) by 7.5 games in the North Division standings. Edmonton hosts Tucson (12-15) again on Sunday at 2 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Following Saturday night's game, fans were treated to the Capitals Cartoon Festival Marathon, as part of EZ Rock Saturday Night Movies. A variety of cartoon classics were projected on a giant screen in centre field from dusk 'til dawn.

One of the Caps' most popular events of the season is up next on Sunday with the annual Bark In The Park afternoon. Edmonton takes on Tucson at 2 p.m., and fans are invited to bring their dogs to TELUS Field to take in the action. A $15 ticket gets a dog and its owner through the gates, with the proceeds from the event going to the Edmonton Humane Society.

The Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Season seats start at less than $9 per game and are available pro-rated for the balance of the season. Individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
