Orange County Flyers News Release
FULLERTON, Calif (August 14, 2010), -- The Orange County Flyers used a five-run first inning a strong pitching trio to defeat the Tijuana Cimarrones, 7-1, on Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader. Former NL All-Star Mark Prior, who made his debut at Goodwin Field, struck out four batters to finish off the Cimarrones.
Prior, pitching in his third appearance with OC, allowed one unearned run and one hit over two innings of work. Jake Renshaw earned the win for the Flyers with two scoreless innings of relief of starter Cha-Seung Baek, who tossed three hitless innings on short rest.
The Flyers came out of the gates swinging scoring five runs in the bottom of the first off Cimarrones starter Jordan Kendall (1-1). After back-to-back singles by Steve Boggs and Tyler Keeble to lead off the inning, Jimmy Rohan cashed Boggs for the Flyers first run of the game. David Harris and Julian Benavidez walked in consecutive at bats, when Derek Perren blasted a three-run shot, his fourth of the year, as Orange County took a 5-0 lead over Tijuana.
The Flyers tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second when Boggs, Keeble, and Rohan all walked consecutively. With the bases loaded, Sergio Pedroza hit a two-run double to give the Flyers a 7-0 lead.
The Flyers improved to 18-5 in the second half with the win and are currently in the first place in the GBL South Division.
