Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush hosted division rival, the Colorado Eagles, and were coming off of a disappointing weekend against the Oklahoma City Blazers. The Rush were able to put that behind them as they came out on top, 4-3.

The first period saw plenty of action between the two squads. The Eagles were the first to find the back of the net only 1:11 into the period. Adam Hogg tallied the goal for Colorado with assists from Brett Hammond and Scott Polaski. The Rush were able to respond later in the period when Matt Zultek put the puck past Eagles goaltender, Morgan Cey, for the powerplay goal. Zultek, who scored his first goal for the Rush was assisted by Blaine Jarvis and Jamie VanderVeeken. The first period ended with the teams tied up at, 1-1.

The second frame was the most active period when it came to scoring as a total of four goals were scored. Rapid City was able to add another point and take their first lead of the game when Derek LeBlanc found the back of the net at the 3:40 mark. LeBlanc was assisted by Mark DeSantis on the play. Colorado responded a few minutes later when Greg Pankewicz put the puck past Miguel Beaudry. Pankewicz was assisted by Aaron Schneekloth and Ed McGrane, evening up the score at 2-2. Offensively Rapid City wasn't done yet as Mark DeSantis, who had tallied an assist earlier in the period, grabbed a goal at 8:04 into the period. DeSantis was set up by Chris Lipsett and Mitch Stephens on the play. Luke Fritshaw would add his second of the season at the 12:07 mark. Fritshaw was assisted by LeBlanc and Gio Flamminio. Rapid City also outshot the Eagles 20-10 in the middle frame, and after 40 minutes, had a 4-2 lead.

The third period was a bit of a turnaround for the Rush, as Colorado dominated the shot column, firing eighteen at Beaudry while the Rush only sent 4 in the entire period. Colorado was also the only squad to tally another point in the period as Ryan Tobler found the back of the net at 16:48 into the period as he was assisted by Erik Adams and Polaski. The extra goal wouldn't be enough for the Eagles as Rapid City still came out on top, 4-3. The Colorado have lost three straight games for the first time all season.

Both Rapid City and Colorado were able to convert one powerplay a piece, with Colorado going 1-for-5, and Rapid City going 1-for-6. Colorado held the edge in final shots, 42-37. Up next for the Rush is a road trip to Tulsa as they take on the Oilers in a weekend doubleheader. The puck will drop at 7:35 CST both Friday and Saturday.
