RiverKings Jump to Top of Yellowbook CHL Coaches Poll

Published on February 18, 2009 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

After a two-game sweep of the, then #1, Colorado Eagles this past weekend, the Mississippi RiverKings have vaulted into the top spot on the Yellowbook CHL Coaches Poll. The RiverKings have taken over the lead in the Northeast Division and have the third highest point total in the CHL trailing Colorado and Texas. The RiverKings jumped from #6 to #1 after going 5-0-1 since the last poll released on February 4th. Three teams received first place votes with Mississippi earning seven of them, Colorado six and Texas three first place votes. The top three teams in the poll are lumped as close together as any other poll in league history. The RiverKings finished one point ahead of Colorado and three points ahead of Texas.

Only two teams moved up in the poll with the RiverKings making the biggest jump and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs moving up one spot from #5 to #4. The biggest fall comes from Odessa who has dropped six straight games (0-3-3). The Jacks fall from #2 to #5. Other teams dropping were the Eagles (#1 to #2) and Oklahoma City (#4 to #6).

The CHL Top 10 Coaches Poll will be released on or near the beginning and middle of each month through the regular season. Each first place vote receives 10 points, second place earns nine points, etc.
