Providence Bruins News Release
PROVIDENCE, R. I. - Lehigh Valley got the scoring going with Morin's slap shot finding a way past Zane McIntyre 5:36 into the period. Despite going down a goal early, the P-Bruins looked strong in the first 20 minutes, managing to snap 15 pucks on net and the defense holding the Phantoms to only 4 shots.
Seth Griffith tied the game at 1-1 at 1:43 into the second period. The Phantom's McDonald made a defensive save on a Rob Bordson shot, and Griffith collected the puck and sent it out to Ben Youds on the blue line. Tommy Cross dished the puck back to Griffith who exhibited patience before roofing the puck over Stolarz's left shoulder.
Lehigh Valley responded halfway through the period when Martel scored with the help of McDonald and MacDonald. The Phantoms entered the 2nd period with a 2-1 lead.
Matt Irwin scored early in the third period to tie the game at 2-2. Griffith fed Irwin a pass who wound up and blasted a shot past Stolarz. But the Phantoms went on a three goal tear that the P-Bruins could not bounce back from. Goumas scored a minute after Irwin's equalizer, then Brent deked around McIntyre for the short handed goal. Straka finished things off with an empty netter with 23 seconds left in regulation.
The penalty kill unit looked strong throughout the game, with the P-Bruins playing shorthanded throughout 8 Providence penalties. The Phantoms were held to 21 shots on goal and none of their goals were scored on the power play advantage.
Providence is back at the Dunk Friday December 4th against the Portland Pirates at 7:05pm. This will be the fourth time these two teams have played each other this season.
