Springfield Falcons News Release
Bridgeport, CT - Goaltender Nicklas Treutle stopped 41 shots to aid the Falcons to a 2-0 win against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Sunday night.
The Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a backhand goal from Lucas Lessio in the slot. His fourth of the season snapped a six-game pointless streak. Tyler Gaudet and Alex Grant assisted on the goal scored 5:33 into the period.
A penalty-filled period featured 19 shots from the Sound Tigers that were all saved by Treutle. The Falcons could not score on their four power plays in the period. The Sound Tigers had three man advantages but were also held scoreless. The Falcons held their 1-0 lead by killing a penalty in the last minute of the period. Bridgeport fired off consecutive shots on Treutle but the lead carried into the third.
Grant gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead with a power play goal for his third of the season at 11:33 in the third period. The goal was assisted by Dustin Jeffrey and Derek Smith. Bridgeport's head coach, Brent Thompson, was ejected from the game after an on-ice altercation halfway through the period. This began a flurry of penalties and fighting majors. Treutle and the Falcons prevented the Sound Tigers offense from scoring and finished the game with a shutout win by the score of 2-0. Treutle improved to 3-2-0. Christopher Gibson made 28 saves falling to 7-3-0.
