Niagara IceDogs leading scorer Ryan Strome reached the 100 point mark by scoring both the tying and overtime game-winning goal to boost his team to a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa 67's at the Rona Centre Friday night.

The physical tone was set early as over-aged defenseman and Ottawa native Tim Billingsley laid a massive hit on 67's top prospect Shane Prince around the 6:28 mark of the first. The hit appeared to be clean and no penalty was called, but Prince's helmet flew off on his way to the ice and he was slow to get up, but managed to skate off the ice with help.

Jake Cardwell took liberties to Billingsley's hit and the two dropped the gloves, but Cardwell received the instigator penalty and a ten minute misconduct.

Just 21 seconds after the fight, Alex Friesen jammed one past Ottawa netminder Shayne Campbell to give Niagara a 1-0 lead.

The lead wouldn't last long as rookie sensation Sean Monahan put home his 18th of the season at the 9:08 mark to even things up, 1-1.

The score would remain so after the first 20 minutes of play, and the game's emotional tone escalated right up to the intermission.

In the second period, the emotions were settled between the two teams and they played another 20 minutes of back and forth hockey, but neither club could beat their opposing goaltender, and the score remanded at a 1-1 tie after 40 minutes.

The 67's thought they had taken the lead early in the third, but the goal was waved off as Mark Visentin was interfered with in the crease, and the game remained tied.

That didn't discourage the home team as Ottawa's captain Thomas Nesbitt put his team ahead 2-1 at the 12:42 mark of the third with the help of Monahan and Cody Ceci.

Later in the period, IceDogs leading scorer Ryan Strome scored a huge goal for the 'Dogs at the 16:32 mark on the power play for his 31st tally of the season, and 100th point. That makes Strome the second player in the OHL to reach the 100 mark this season, only behind over-ager Jason Akeson of the Kitchener Rangers.

Strome's goal would force the game into overtime with a 2-2 tie.

Just as he tied the game at two, Ryan Strome set up his own one-timer while working with Dougie Hamilton to pot his 32nd goal of the season (101st point) to boost the IceDogs to their second overtime victory in as many night.

The final score: 3-2

The IceDogs will take a day off before paying a visit to the Kingston Frontenacs this Sunday, Mar. 13, with the puck drop set for 2 p.m. Fans can catch the game as always on TVCogeco, The OHL Action Pack and 105.1 The River.
