Erie, Pennsylvania - Dylan Strome scored two goals and Daniel Dekoning picked up his second win in his second OHL start in the Otters' 3-2 victory over Sudbury Friday night in Erie.

The Otters jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Patrick Fellows' second OHL goal only 2:58 into the matchup in his first game back from injury. Picking up their second OHL assists on the goal were Kyle Maksimovich and Shaun Bily. Both Strome and Patrick Murphy had great chances not long after, but Sudbury goaltender Troy Timpano stopped the Otters from an early two-goal lead.

Timpano came up big for Sudbury a few minutes later. With Sudbury on the power play, Connor McDavid picked up the puck in the neutral zone and carried it in on a huge breakaway before Timpano robbed him deep in the crease, keeping the score 1-0. Daniel Dekoning returned the favor on Sudbury's first power play, making two big saves to keep the Wolves off the board to close out the first.

Dekoning continued to make a difference for the Otters in the second period. With Sudbury on their third power play of the night, he made a huge glove save to keep the Wolves off the board.

At the 13:03 mark, the Otters were given a huge test on the penalty kill after Cory Genovese laid out a monstrous hit on Jacob Harris, sending him into the boards. Genovese was immediately sent to the locker room with a five-minute major for checking from behind and a game misconduct.

The Otters penalty kill unit kept the puck away from Dekoning to start the five minutes before clearing the puck into Sudbury's zone. On the next rush for the Wolves, they peppered Dekoning with the puck, Dekoning keeping it out of the back of the net with a series of huge saves.

With just under two and a half minutes to go in the penalty, the Otters carried the puck into the offensive zone, nearly scoring shorthanded. With 1:49 left in the second, Erie killed the major penalty. Strome grabbed the puck on a rush into the Sudbury zone and, with 11.1 seconds to go, gave the Otters a 2-0 lead with assists going to McDavid and Alex DeBrincat.

A flurry of penalties started the third period. Strome started off with a hooking call at 1:07 before being joined in the penalty box by McDavid with 17 seconds to go on the hooking call. The Sudbury power play was short-lived as Matt Schmalz took a roughing minor, negating the man-advantage and opening up the ice with 48 seconds of four-on-four.

Right before the tripping penalty to McDavid expired, Sudbury's Austin Clapham put the Wolves on the board, cutting the lead to 2-1. Dekoning made another impressive save before McDavid fed the puck to Strome for Strome's second goal of the night, giving the Otters the 3-1 lead. 33 seconds later, Danny Desrochers cut the Otters lead to one goal once again. Sudbury pulled Timpano for the extra attacker with 1:52 left in the game. With Erie taking an offensive zone face off, Sudbury called their timeout. A final rush to the Erie zone was unsuccessful for the Wolves, and the Otters advanced to 7-0-0-1 to start the season with the 3-2 win.

The Otters' leading scorers continued their streaks in the win. DeBrincat's assist on Strome's second goal extended his point streak to five games, while Strome and McDavid now have at least a point in all eight of the Otters' games this season. Strome also brings his goal-scoring streak to three games. The Otters move to 2-0-0-1 while being outshot by opponents this season with Sudbury finishing the night 34-26.

The Otters close out the weekend Saturday night at home against the London Knights for the second time in three games, with face off scheduled for 7 p.m.
