Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Friday, April 3, 2015) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers today announced festivities and in-stadium entertainment surrounding the team's 2015 home opener, set for Saturday (April 4) at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
A limited amount of tickets still remain for the match featuring last season's NASL Championship runner-up Fort Lauderdale squaring off against longtime rival the New York Cosmos. Tickets are available starting at $12 on Strikers.com . Tickets will also be available for walk-up purchase prior to the game.
Activities on tap, beginning at 6:00 p.m. EDT, when the gates open, include:
+ Ceremonial Kick Off: Three all-time soccer greats -- team owner Ronaldo, former Strikers players Teî"filo "Nene" Cubillas and Elias Figueroa, will join Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler, a Strikers season ticket holder, in the game's ceremonial kickoff immediately prior to the start of the match.
Each former soccer great is recognized as one of his native country's most famous players (Ronaldo - Brazil; Cubillas - Peru; Figueroa - Chile).
+ National Anthem and Pre-game Music: Broward College's Krisinta Hernandez will present the Star-Spangled Banner prior to the ceremonial kick.
Meanwhile, the Piper High School Band of Pride from Sunrise, Fla. will perform in the Fan Zone from 6:30 -7:30 p.m.
The game will mark the christening of a new Strikers Stage in the Fan Zone that will serve as a hub for pre-game entertainment. Upgrades in the Fan Zone also include a newly-landscaped concourse and an upgraded Public Address system.
The following local food trucks will be serving one-of-a-kind items in the southeast parking lot adjacent to the Fan Zone at Lockhart Stadium:
King of Racks -- BBQ
Las Gorditas -- Stuffed arepas
Red Zeppelin -- Lobster rolls
Killer Melts -- Grilled cheese
Flour Power - Fish & Chips, Burgers, Desserts
Inside the seating areas, fans will enjoy expanded leg room, new cupholders and red- and yellow-colored seats in the four center sections of the main grandstands.
Guests will receive complimentary Match Day magazines as they enter Lockhart Stadium. This year, the team will produce six unique magazines -- the most in recent history.
The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a Strikers schedule magnet.
Strikers faithful who cannot make the game will be able to enjoy the telecast on ESPN3, featuring play-by-play man Bruce Silverman -- The Voice of the Strikers -- and color commentator Ed Boreth.
