Match Preview: Fury FC Carry High Expectations into Season Opener
April 3, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Ottawa Fury FC News Release
(Cary, NC) - We Are Fury! The slogan that Fury FC carry into the 2015 North American Soccer League (NASL) season speaks of identity, unity and confidence. All elements that head coach Marc Dos Santos believes in heading into Saturday's season opener in Carolina against the RailHawks.
With a clear vision of their model of play, a returning core that has gelled well with the newcomers and confidence coming out of a successful pre-season, Fury FC are ready to take aim of their goals set for 2015 - the NASL post-season and ousting FC Edmonton from the Amway Canadian Championship.
While Saturday marks the start of their second season in the NASL, the road to their goals began five months ago when their inaugural season ended. Dos Santos and his staff have been retooling their squad and assembled a 21-man roster that is comprised of 13 returning players and eight new additions. The 21st member of the squad was added late last week - the captain of the Canadian Men's National Team - Julian De Guzman. Outside of the newest addition to the squad, the entire squad has been through six weeks of training camp together where they posted an unbeaten record (4W-1D-0L) in exhibition action.
"We believe that we have put ourselves in a position to achieve our goals this season that start with our first game in Carolina," said Dos Santos. "Having all of the guys in for a full pre-season has been fantastic. We have built chemistry, the guys have an understanding of our model of play and are confident is what we are asking of them."
"Carolina is a good team - we know their strengths, but we also know their weaknesses. We need to approach this game with a calm and focused mentality."
Fury FC will travel to Atlanta next week to face the Silverbacks who have made several off-season moves to improve on their last place finish in 2014. Fury FC will return home to TD Place for their home opener on April 18 against the 2014 Regular Season Champion Minnesota United FC. Tickets available at OttawaFuryFC.com.
