Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT, WI - After falling in the first game of the series to the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Snappers bounced back in today's game with a 3-2 victory. The game was 2-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning when Snappers OF Derek McCallum singled and would later move to second on a passed ball. C Tobias Streich would delivery the big hit as he singled up the middle to score McCallum from second. That would be all the runs the Snappers would need to earn the victory in the second game of the three-game set.

Snappers starting pitcher A.J. Achter yielded a run in the first and second inning of the game but would then settle into a groove. He would go on to tie his season high with seven innings pitched and only allowing those early runs. Achter now improves to 3-2 on the year with a 4.65 ERA. Jose Gonzalez would finish the game for the Snappers by pitching two innings to earn his 9th save of the year.

The bottom of the line-up stepped up for the Snappers in this afternoon's game. McCallum was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Streich was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored including the game winning hit. CF Wang-Wei Lin was 2-3 raising his average to .265 on the year.

The Whitecaps received a well pitched game by starter Brian Flynn. Flynn went 5 2/3 innings with one earned run. Reliever Antonio Cruz earned the loss as he gave up the hit to Streich in the 7th inning. Cruz now moves to 2-6 with a 3.11 ERA on the year.

The "Brodie Trophy Player of the Game," goes to Snappers starting pitcher A.J. Achter. Achter fell into a rhythm after the second inning and would give the Whitecaps no opportunities to score after the second. He is now 3-0 pitching in day games including his performance today at scorching hot Pohlman Field.

Tomorrow, the Snappers and Whitecaps conclude their three-game set at 12 PM. B.J. Hermsen will start for the Snappers against Victor Larez for the Whitecaps. Tomorrow will be Monster Deal Monday.
