Bees Win 9th of Second Half; 5-4 Over Lake County

BURLINGTON, IA (July 17) - C John Nester (1-2) hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to score SS Yordy Cabrera (1-4) from third base to give the Burlington Bees (9-14) a 5-4 win over the Lake County Captains (8-15) before 619 fans at Community Field on Sunday afternoon.

LF Royce Consigli (3-4) and 2B Ryan Pineda (1-2) led off the game with back-to-back singles. 3B Tony Thompson (0-3) walked and 1B Josh Whitaker (1-4) hit a grand slam home run over the left field wall for a 4-0 Burlington lead.

Lake County scored two runs in the third inning to cut the lead in half. RF Carlos Moncrief (1-5) hit a solo home run over the right field wall to lead off the inning. CF LaVon Washington (2-4) singled and moved to third base on a double by 3B Giovanny Urshela (3-4). 1B Jesus Aguilar (0-4) grounded out to score Washington to make it 4-2.

The Captains scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game at 4-4. In the fifth inning Urshela laced an RBI single. In the sixth inning SS Ronny Rodriguez (2-4) hit a solo home run that tied the score.

Cabrera doubled to lead off the sixth inning and went to third base on a sacrifice bunt by LF Douglas Landaeta (1-2). Nester hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Cabrera for a 5-4.

Max Peterson (2-0) pitched two and two-thirds innings to get the win. Daniel Tenholder logged a scoreless ninth inning to get his 10th save.

Bees Buzzings: The win Sunday was the 400th win of manager Aaron Nieckula's career. He began his career as the manager of the Kane County Cougars in 2006.

The Bees and Captains finish their series on Monday night at 6:30. It's "Dollar Monday."
