Modesto Nuts News Release

VISALIA, CA (August 22nd, 2013) -- Rawhide third-baseman Jake Lamb broke a 7-7 tie in the bottom of the ninth with a solo home run, sending Visalia to a walk-off 8-7 victory over the Nuts on Thursday night at Recreation Park.

The loss halted Modesto's season-best winning streak of nine, while also trimming their lead in the division to three games. San Jose completed a sweep over Stockton to pick up a game, and Visalia not sits four games back with 11 to play.

Ryan Buch (0-1) suffered the loss, facing Lamb to lead off the ninth. R.J. Hively (3-0), who tossed a scoreless top of the ninth picked up the win.

Modesto built an early 6-1 lead against Rawhide starter Keith Hessler, but saw it evaporate in a five-run Visalia fourth inning.

Nuts starter Tyler Gagnon allowed just one run through the first three innings, before loading the bases with no outs in the fourth. After getting two big strikeouts to avoid temporary trouble, Rawhide lead-off man Kevin Medrano singled home a pair of runs to make it 6-3. Gerson Montilla clobbered the next pitch over the left-field fence to quickly knot the score.

Modesto retook the lead, 7-6, in the sixth inning as Taylor Featherston reached on a two-out single, and eventually scored on an error by Lamb. Visalia made it 7-7 in the 7th as Lamb singled against reliever Nelson Gonzalez, and scored on a double by David Peralta who was facing lefty Kraig Sitton.

Both teams went scoreless the rest of the way until Lamb's blast in the ninth.

Featherston finished 4-for-4 and scored three times, while Harold Riggins tallied three hits. Matt Wessinger drove in a pair, with Ryan Casteel and Will Swanner both adding two hits apiece. Casteel belted a solo home run in the third, his 22nd of the season.

The Nuts will try to get back to their winning ways as they head further south to Lake Elsinore. A four-game series opens on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. from The Diamond. RHP Ben Alsup (11-8, 4.75) will get the start, opposite RHP Jonny Barbato (3-4, 4.38) for the Storm.
