66ers Win in All-Star Fashion

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers (66-64) electrified the home crowd with a 9-1 win over the High Desert Mavericks (59-70) and a league announcement of post-season honors named to a handful of hometown stars.

The Inland Empire's line-up generated a consistent momentum at the plate in tonight's contest, scoring a total of nine runs in every inning except two to support Orangel Arenas' effort from the hill. Arenas' performance proved to be the comeback needed after coming off the heels of a two game slide for the right-hander.

The 66ers offense was relentless from the batter's box. Lead-off man Brennan Gowens, Eric Stamets, Alex Yarbrough and Chance Ross each had a multi-hit game in tonight's game. Of all eleven Inland Empire hits the most exciting hands down was Eric Stamets two-run, inside the park round-tripper in the 8th inning.

In addition to taking a win over the Mavericks, the High-A Halo's found themselves filling up the ranks of the acclaimed post-season club after today's California League announcement of its 2013 Field Awards and Post Season All-Star Team. Four of nine rotation slots were occupied by young 66ers phenoms Zach Borenstein, Alex Yarbrough, Michael Snyder and Mark Sappington.

Most notably, 66ers outfielder Zach Borenstein was named the Cal League's Most Valuable Player in addition to occupying the designated hitter slot on the Post Season All-Star Team roster. In his third year of pro ball the 22 year old still remains a late season triple-crown threat and currently leads the league in average, OPS and slugging. Additionally Borenstein ranks among the top twenty players across all of minor league baseball in homers, slugging and OPS making him the no-doubter selection for the coveted title. Borenstein's title makes him the first MVP from the 66ers organization since the 2008 season.

Adding to the 66ers 2013 accolades, Alex Yarbrough was named as the 2013 Post Season All-Star second basemen. Yarbrough, 4th round draft pick in 2012, currently leads the league with 172 hits in 536 at bats. Infielder Michael Snyder joined his Inland Empire colleagues on the roster as the All-Start first basemen.

66ers alumni, Mark Sapping, filled up a pitching rotational slot with eleven season wins, a still relevant league second-best record despite being called up to Double-A on August 2nd.

Tomorrow the 66ers will continue their final homestand of the regular season against the High Desert Mavericks.
