Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lancaster, CA - Delino Deshields scored the game-winning run on a rather fluky play, as the Lancaster JetHawks defeated the Quakes in ten innings on Friday night at The Hangar, 4-3.
Tied at 3-3 in the tenth, Deshields led off with a drive to deep right-center field. Center fielder Casio Grider appeared to make the catch, then crash into the wall. As Grider fell to the ground, the ball came out of his glove. Grider dropped it again after picking it back up, allowing Deshields to circle the bases and beat the throw to the plate. Manager Carlos Subero came out to argue the call, but the call stood and the game ended with a JetHawks' celebration.
Quakes' reliever Edwin Carl (0-1), who worked a 1-2-3 ninth, gave up the unearned run in the tenth and took the loss.
M.P. Cokinos gave the JetHawks the lead in the first, with a two-run homer off of Gustavo Gomez, his 13th of the year.
Grider got the Quakes even in the third, as his two-run two-out triple tied the game at 2-2 against Lancaster starter Kyle Smith.
Cokinos led off the fourth with a single and eventually scored again, as an RBI groundout by Dan Gulbransen made it 3-2.
The Quakes drew even in the fifth, as Noel Cuevas tripled home Grider to make it 3-3.
Gomez pitched well in the no-decision, allowing three runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings.
Despite the loss, Rancho (29-31, 60-70) got some help in the South Division, as both High Desert and Lake Elsinore both lost, keeping the Mavs a half-game back and the Storm 3 Ãâý back of the Quakes for the final wild card spot.
Freddie Cabrera (3-3) will throw for the Quakes on Saturday, as he'll be opposed by Lancaster's Brady Rodgers (9-8) at 7:00pm.
The Quakes return to LoanMart Field on Tuesday, August 27th for the final home stand of the regular season. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field. Go Quakes!
