Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades picked up their 7th straight win and moved into a 1st place tie with the Swift Current Broncos as they improved their season record to 8-4-0-0 with a 3-1 victory over Swift Current on Wednesday night.
In a slow paced, penalty filled affair, the Blades scored once in the 2nd and twice in the 3rd before allowing Swift Currents lone goal of the night. Burke Gallimore (PP) scored his team leading 8th goal of the season to open the games scoring while Travis Toomey and Stefan Elliott (PP) added their 5th and 3rd goals of the season respectively in the 3rd period.
Jyri Niemi was the lone Blade to record a 2 point night with 2 assists in the game, both on power play goals.
Braden Holtby backstopped the Blades to his 6th consecutive win in goal after making 28 saves on 29 Swift Current shots. Mark Guggenberger took the loss in goal for the Broncos as he allowed 3 goals against on 41 Saskatoon shots.
Saskatoon's power play, which has struggled to start the season, potted 2 goals on 9 attempts while the team's penalty killing units combined for a 7 for 8 performance. The game saw 28 infractions, 23 of which were minor penalties.
The Blades will now have to wait nearly a week before they can look to extend their streak to 8 games when they travel to Regina for a tilt with the Pats on October 21st before returning home to face a league worst Portland Winter Hawks squad on October 22nd.
