Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Hartford, Conn - Hunter Stovall cracked a go-ahead home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Hartford Yard Goats beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2-1 on Friday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park. Kyle Datres launched a solo homer to score the Yard Goats' first run in the fourth. Hartford's bullpen tossed four and 1/3 scoreless innings in front of the 32nd sellout crowd of the season. The Yard Goats won their second straight game and have split the first four against the Fisher Cats.
New Hampshire threatened in the top of the third inning after a lead-off triple by Davis Schneider. Hartford's starter Mitch Kilkenny escaped the jam by retiring the heart of the Fisher Cats' batting order. After Kilkenny induced a groundout and pop-out, the right-hander struck out slugger Orelvis Martinez to keep the game scoreless.
The Yard Goats took the lead 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Datres cracked a lead-off, solo homer to deep center field. The longball was the left-fielder's third of the series and 13th of the season. New Hampshire tied it in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by John Aiello. Jared Biddy entered in relief and prevented the Blue Jays affiliate from taking the lead through the fifth.
Stovall launched a solo homer to right field to lead-off the sixth inning. The Yard Goats shortstop's ninth round-tripper of the season gave Hartford a 2-1 lead. The Fisher Cats began the seventh with a single by Schneider, but Biddy snared a line drive off the bat of Luis De Los Santos and doubled off Schneider at first for a double play.
New Hampshire threatened again in the eighth, down by one, loading the bases with one out. Blair Calvo struck out Zac Cook for the second out. First-baseman Grant Lavigne laid out to snag a grounder off the bat of Zach Britton and flipped the ball to Calvo at first to end the inning, keeping the Yard Goats in front. Gavin Hollowell tossed a scoreless ninth, striking out two batters, to secure his 15th save of the season.
The Yard Goats continue their homestand against the Blue Jays affiliate, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, on Saturday night at 6:05. RHP Will Ethridge will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Sem Robberse will start for the Fisher Cats. The game will be broadcasted on Newsradio 1410 WPOP. The two squads face off two more times, with the series concluding on Sunday afternoon.
