Somerset Patriots News Release
Bowie, MD -- The Somerset Patriots (68-43) were defeated 3-2 by the Bowie Baysox (55-57) in extra innings on Friday night at Prince George's Stadium on what was a career night for Matt Sauer.
Sauer struck out a new career-high 11 batters, as part of a 17-strikeout performance for the Patriots pitching staff, tied for its most in a game this season.
Somerset scored its only two runs in the second inning on Rodolfo Duran's seventh home run of the season, which scored Brandon Lockridge.
The Baysox took the game's initial lead on a Joey Ortiz home run in the first inning, then they tied the game on a home run by Maverick Handley in the fifth inning on a play where Jeisson Rosario left with game with an apparent injury.
Rosario slammed into the left-center field wall on the fly ball hit by Handley, which was initially ruled a triple. After Rosario collapsed on the warning track, which resulted in a several-minute delay, the play was later ruled a home run, which tied the game.
Rosario did not return and was replaced in the game by Andres Chaparro.
Connor Norby laced the game-winning hit into left field with one out in the 10th inning off of Carson Coleman, handing Somerset its seventh extra innings loss of the season in 11 extra inning games.
Coleman was tagged for his third loss of the season, all coming in extras.
The 2022 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue in Bowie on Saturday with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch against the Bowie Baysox at Prince George's Stadium.
Yankees All-Star outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is scheduled to make a rehab assignment with the Patriots over their final two games in Bowie.
RHP Randy Vasquez will get the start for Somerset opposite RHP Justin Armbruester for Bowie.
Fans can follow the action live as Steven Cusumano calls the play-by-play on MiLB.tv and FOX Sports New Jersey 93.5 FM | 1450 AM, the Flagship Station for Patriots Baseball, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m.
