Modesto, CA. - A Roberto Ramos blast backed a stellar pitching performance in the Modesto Nuts 1-0 win over the Bakersfield Blaze at John Thurman Field on Wednesday night.
With the game scoreless in the seventh, Tyler Pike (L, 0-1) surrendered a solo home run to Roberto Ramos who yanked his first home run of the year out to right and in the process, extending his team-high hitting streak to nine games.
Pike worked seven innings and struck out five while allowing just three hits.
Sam Howard started for the Nuts (6-7) and shut the Blaze (4-9) down over 5.2 innings which is the longest outing by a Nuts starter in the season's first month. Howard struck out seven and only allowed three hits. Troy Neiman (W, 2-0) followed out of the 'pen and retired all seven batters he faced. Jerry Vasto (S, 2/3) shut the door in the ninth.
